As a teacher at St. Stanislav’s Institution in Ljubljana (in Slovenia) I gathered responses of students on my teaching about Mental Disabilities. From 19 responses, these are the most interesting:
– A person, as an individual, does not have the right to decide about another person’s life, as our lives should not be measured based on the success of abilities… Of course, in such cases, we do not judge the people, but the action itself.
– Every life is equally valuable.
– Everyone has the right to life, and this should not even be a question. Even if you know a child will be mentally impaired, you have no right to prevent their life.
– I believe that, in society, we should never reach a point where the free decision is whether to kill someone or not.
– We cannot decide about another person’s life; only nature can determine that.
– Life should not always be saved at any cost; let things happen as they naturally would.
– I believe that the decision to have or not have a child with a mental disorder should be made by the parents. I hold this opinion mainly because I don’t think it’s right for healthcare professionals to make this decision.
– Abortion is an immoral act in all cases.
